Systematic Order Beds
This educational addition to Stonecrop was constructed in 2003 and consists of a T-shaped Pergola and 40 flower beds, with a peripheral planting of roses. The flower beds, alphabetically arranged from A to Z represents approximately 50 Plant Families. The plantings on the Pergola represent an additional 13 Plant Families and are used to demonstrate interesting annual and perennial vines, and their climbing methods. In addition to its educational resource, the Order Beds provide a chance to experiment with plants with no restrictions due to colour, height, or texture. The flower beds also provide a seed source for our Index Seminum and Rarium. At the north end of the Pergola is a collection of American and European Paeonia cultivars.
